Help

Design and Browser support.

Aberdeen City and Shire Portal has been designed to work in the major browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera.  The site has been designed to work on a resolution 800 by 600 pixel but works best for 1024 by 768 pixels and higher.

Accessibility

The site has been developed with accessibility in mind and considering the needs of a wide audience.  The site conforms to AA (Double A) of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 1.0 (WCAG) and relies on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control presentation and layout that provides faster download times and improved searching.  Users can also add there own style sheet far more effectively. Visit our Accessibility page for more information.

A text-only (Alt + X) style sheet provides a high contrast view of the pages without images.  The text sizes are designed to scale to a relatively large text size.

Navigation

Navigation has been provided through a left hand menu for each section, crumb trail, site map and popular links.

Site structure

The site has nine main sections and home, listed across the banner at the top of the page, and a popular links section on the right hand side of the page.

Site Map

The Site Map provides a list of pages by section.

Search

The search function provides a means for a basic search and an advanced search. There is also a Search Tips page that provides information on Advanced Search functionality such as wildcards, Boolean searches, stemming and phonic searching.
